Downtown Montgomery

Sunday, March 11, 2018

There isn't much in downtown Montgomery. They love Hank Williams and their confederate history.

The First White House of the Confederacy was the executive residence of President Jefferson Davis and family while the capital of the Confederate States of America was in Montgomery, Alabama.

Alabama State Capitol Building. It was built in 1850 and was the First Confederate Capitol.

Horseshoe Bend National Military Park

Saturday, March 10, 2018

The site of the last battle of the Creek War on March 27, 1814. General Andrew Jackson's Tennessee militia, aided by the 39th U.S. Infantry Regiment and Cherokee and Lower Creek allies, finally crushed Upper Creek Red Stick resistance during the Battle of Horseshoe Bend at this site on the Tallapoosa River. Jackson's decisive victory at Horseshoe Bend broke the power of the Creek Nation.

Over 800 Upper Creeks died defending their homeland. This was the largest loss of life for Native Americans in a single battle in the history of United States.

On August 9, 1814, the Creeks signed the Treaty of Fort Jackson, which ceded 23 million acres of land in Alabama and Georgia to the United States government.

Race Recap
It was cold and a bit windy. I had a better race than last year but not as good as 2 years ago. First mile was fastest, but slowed way down for miles 2 and 3 but they were all under 13 so that is a win with me lately. Race #2 for 2018 is done.

Super Bowl Week Fun

Monday, February 5, 2018

It was a very exciting week leading up the Super Bowl. I loved the energy that was in the air downtown. It is too bad that it was a busy week at work for me so I couldn't enjoy it too much but I did some of the fun things.

On the Sunday before the Super Bowl we walked around Nicollet Mall with Eric's brother and sister. It was cold! There were some nice ice sculptures.

On Thursday we went to the Super Bowl Experience where I nailed a 30 yard field goal! Yes I kick with my left foot.

On Friday, I watch some skijoring...

Saturday we ventured down to see Kitten Bowl.
